Kim Cloete wins ‘journalist of the year’ for Carte Blanche
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Carte Blanche producer, Kim Cloete, has won this year’s brandhouse Responsible Drinking Media Awards held last night at One&Only in Cape Town. Her submission on Foetal Alcohol Syndrome was featured on Carte Blanche In November 2011 .

“I was really impressed by the quality of entries this year.  The submissions were all pertinent and compelling. From a judging perspective it made our task very difficult but it was a pleasure to see that journalists have understood that they are vital in the fight against alcohol abuse and their messages and approaches need to be strong in order to tackle the problem,” says Chris Moerdyk, one of the judges.

There were seven categories including Best Newspaper, Best Magazine, Best Broadcast, Best Online, Best Blog, Best Community and Journalist of the year.  All the submissions entered into this year’s Responsible Drinking Media Awards were considered for the Journalist of the year award.  Each category winner walked away with R10 000 for their contribution to the promotion of responsible drinking.

Each of the category winners walked away with R10 000.  The winners are:

Journalist of the Year

Kim Cloete (Carte Blanche )

Best Newspaper ( Joint Winner )

Zinhle Mapumulo (City Press Newspaper)

Trish Beaver (The Witness Newspaper)

Best Magazine

Dalena Theron (You Magazine)

Best Online

Gary Koen (Child Magazine Online)

Best Blog

Bronwyn May (Reviewme.co.za)

Best Broadcast

Kim Cloete (Carte Blanche )

Best Community

Marana Brand van Hulsteyn (Tygerburger)

The panel of judges assigned with the challenging task of choosing the 2012 Responsible Drinking ambassadors included well known Cape Talk radio presenter, Kieno Kammies, media and marketing guru, Moerdyk, and the chief director of the National Liquor Authority, Thezi Mabuza.

“At brandhouse, we acknowledge the various issues associated with alcohol and we are forever committed to promoting responsible drinking. The best way to do this is to partner with those who have the power and influence to change things around and that is the media,” says Mike Mabasa, corporate relations director at brandhouse.

“We encourage not only the winners, but the finalists and all the entrants of this year’s awards to continue the hard work in conveying the responsible drinking message. We urge them to keep creating awareness around responsible drinking and come back next year with more compelling articles.”
