Wag the Dog Publishers is an official media partner of Madex 2017 which is being held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 7 and 8 June 2017. Madex is the first expo of its kind that brings together the best minds in the South African marketing world, so that the industry can courageously navigate the fantastic innovations within the marketing, communications, advertising, PR and design space.

Wag the Dog is part of the Iconic Group and publishes The Media and The Media Online. All the companies in the Iconic Group will each exhibit side by side at Madex. These include: Wag the Dog Publishers, Stone Soup (PR), Ideaology (advertising and design), Snippet Video, Trisync Marketing and Rodoyo Digital (web design and development).

The Iconic Group companies are specialists in marketing strategy development and implementation across a diversity of platforms. Smart communication ideas are shared, executed and measured on behalf of a wide range of clients in the public and private sector. Each company can stand alone or blend together, depending on your needs. Iconic is a group of experienced, best of breed professionals – serious minded mavericks able to come up with something new that isn’t simply new for the sake of it.

“As owners of individual companies with broad based backgrounds in communications, we have teams of designers, creatives, writers, project managers and strategic planners who offer knowledge, credibility and delivery,” says Sandra Gordon, CEO and Founder of the Iconic Group, “The Iconic Group is an environment where a family of experienced specialists share their expertise and talent without fear of restriction. A place where strategic communication interventions are developed and nurtured for the good of our clients, employees and our business.”

Wag the Dog Publishers is proud to be a partner of Madex, alongside other companies such as Mail&Guardian, Marklives, Kantar Millward Brown and Adreach Group. There is an impressive speaker line-up over the two days.

The seminar speakers include:

Charles Erasmus a specialist brand and marketing strategist with more than 18 year’s experience in branding, design and communications. After earning a Design qualification in the mid-90s, Erasmus went on to work with Ogilvy, TBWA, Yellowwood and Brand Union to build some of Africa’s most iconic brands including Vodacom, Standard Bank, Albany, City Lodge Hotels, South African Airways, Safaricom (Kenya) and Castle Lager. If you could sum up his mission in one sentence, it would be this: Showing brands the power of being more human.

John Vlismas will speak about a Shared World. Vlismas continues to reinvent himself as the SA comedy landscape evolves. His staying power was especially evident at the 2014 Just For Laughs Festival, Montreal – where he was selected to appear in a television special at the invitation of Comedy Central, which earned him a meeting with Warner Brothers execs. No longer just performing to public and corporate crowds, Vlismas has entered the realm of producer/director.

Monique Claassen’s topic for her presentation is, “Mind the generational gap: Insights on how to optimise marketing efforts across Gen X, Y and Z in South Africa”. Claasen heads up the Media and Digital practice for Kantar Millward Brown South Africa, working with many of the world’s most prominent brands to optimise their media and digital return on investments. With over 14 years of experience in media and digital marketing, strategy and research, her in-depth understanding of the different roles media channels play and how to utilise each channel in optimising brand growth enables her to offer expert advice to clients in how best to deploy media budgets across online and offline.

Joggie Meyburgh will speak about” Bringing the art of storytelling back to B2B Marketing”. Meyburgh is an educator, entrepreneur, innovator, inventor, software and hardware developer, new technology pundit.

Erik Vermeulen’s topic is “Cordialism: How the best companies lose their flavour”. Vermeulen has been a Business consultant since 1994 when he was part of the team that brought Experiential Team Building to South Africa, and international Keynote speaker since 1999. Today he is considered as one of South Africa’s leading thinkers on Behavioural Economics, Corporate Culture and Employee Engagement.
