Huisgenoot’s annual Tempo Awards will undergo a facelift this year with a host of new categories to vote for, promising to produce a string of talented winners on the evening. While readers were only able to vote for their favourite music legends in the past, this year you’re allowed to vote for that enthralling book you couldn’t put down, that soap character who kept you glued to the TV screen or that movie that made you completely forget about your popcorn.
For the first time Huisgenoot will also be honouring someone who contributed to the Afrikaans heritage – enriching readers’ lives – as well as a personality of the year. These winners have already been determined and will be announced at the awards ceremony. Readers can vote in 19 of the categories and there are loads of prizes up for grabs – everyone who votes stands a chance to win, and the biggest prize is a brand-new Suzuki Swift. The new categories are already proving to be popular, with Presenter of the Year a big favourite and reeling in the votes. Limited tickets are available for the big night which will take place at The Lyric in Gold Reef City, Johannesburg, for the first time on 23 July at 7 pm.
