After journalists from multiple media houses protested outside the SABC on Friday, news emerged from Jimi Matthews that the public broadcaster deliberately decided not to give coverage to the EFF and its leader Julius Malema.
Matthews also spoke to City Press about Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s reign of terror inside the SABC as well as what journalists working there are going through.
In an interview with Eusebius McKaiser, on his new eNCA show, Meet the Media, Matthews said the SABC would be “better off” without Motsoeneng.
Other developments about the SABC over the weekend included the ANC calling on Communications Minister Faith Muthambi to investigate Motsoeneng, an abrupt about-turn on the party’s previous attitude which saw spokesperson Zizi Kodwa rip into Matthews.
In the meantime, Right2Know campaign and civil society organisation, SOS Coalition, are meeting this week to plan further countrywide protests against the SABC.
