Whisky Magazine bolster ad sales team

Whisky magazine has announced that Mandy Price has joined its sales team.  “Mandy brings with her invaluable experience that she has gained in the publishing industry over the last 10 years, especially with her background in lifestyle publication sales,” says Shayne Dowling, publisher of Whisky.  Price’s experience in magazine sales includes a range of top-end titles such as House and Garden, Glamour, House and Leisure, as well as Fairlady.

Price joined the Whisky team in August and is focusing on high-end consumer clients who can benefit from the mix that the mag offers.  “There is no other publication in South Africa, that offers the content and environment that this title does,” says Price.

EasyDIY magazine needs an editor

EasyDIY is a quarterly magazine aimed at the growing market of enthusiasts who enjoy improving, enhancing, and maintaining their homes. It was launched in April 2011 and is sold through Builders Warehouse and Builders Express stores as well as CNA, Pick ‘n Pay and Checkers.

The content includes projects and inspirational articles. The aim is to increase the number of enthusiasts by showing how easy and rewarding “doing it yourself” is and, of course, growing our sold copies as a consequence.

Our founding editor is emigrating and I am looking for a special person to fill her shoes, starting in October 2011. Your first issue will appear at the end of January.

You need to be prepared to work freelance and have a good track-record in the field of editing a glossy title. More importantly you need to be organised, deadline-driven and good with people. You will manage an editorial budget and ensure that the publishing process goes without a hitch. Passion, confidence and commitment would be added advantages.

Call me for further details or just send me your CV with a covering note. Email address: sgordon@themedia.co.za. Telephone number: 011 447 7741/0.

Who’s won what

A good week for Ogilvy Cape Town

In addition to the recently announced win of Cape Town Tourism, Ogilvy Cape Town is proud to welcome Heinz South Africa and Queenspark as the agency’s newest clients.

“We believe Ogilvy Cape Town has been awarded these accounts due to our constantly growing digital capability and influence, our ability to build brands through the line and the fact that we are proficient at integrating all aspects of communication. We look forward to building strong relationships with our new clients,” says Gavin Levinsohn, Ogilvy Cape Town managing dDirector.

Heinz South Africa has appointed the agency to develop work for its Wellington sauce brands, Todays Brands and certain Heinz branded products.

Owned by the Rex Trueform Clothing Company Ltd (JSE: RTN), Queenspark is a fashion retailer with 55 stores throughout South Africa.  The agency will develop work for the Queenspark and J Crew menswear brand.

Who’s making moves

The Bank expands of South African office

Creative communications company, The Bank, is expanding its Cape Town office to offer experiential and live events production, as well as its existing film production service. Electric (previously The Bank South Africa), which has been trading for over 10 years will still be maintaining strong ties with the London office.

Electric will be headed up by Sally Burns, as new business and events director, and will deliver the creative expertise of a top London agency, delivered locally at local prices.

“Our desire to launch an events arm in the South African market was a natural progression. We’ve been in the market for 10 years now and our recent work for SABMiller’s Peroni Nastro Azzurro (official sponsor of the Italian Football Team) during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa cemented our decision this year to launch a new creative events business with global expertise,” says Burns.

Matt Cowley, CEO of The Bank, adds: “Expanding our offering into the South African market makes total sense for our business. We have a local knowledge and understanding of South African culture and since the World Cup in 2010, there has been a spotlight on South Africa. This has given us a great opportunity to draw upon the innovative and exciting creative options available; the local events business is burgeoning in South Africa and we’re excited to be a part of it.”

The Bank’s current client list includes SABMiller, Shell, Sky News, RBS, Astra Zeneca, Nokia, Vodafone, Adidas, Blackberry, Ericsson and O2.

Note: TheMediaOnline has a job advertising service. The site is read by media professionals across South Africa. A job posting on the Media Online Costs R342 (incl VAT) and appears for 30 days. It appears both on the Media Online site and Memejobs.com.
