The Cape Town campus of the AAA School of Advertising has announced that its students have won the South African leg of the 2013 L’Oreal Brandstorm Competition. The annual competition is open to 270 universities and tertiary institutions across 38 countries the world over. In essence this competition symbolises the tempest of ideas born from the imagination of young students – ideas which not only challenge the market, but ideas that turn into products.
The Brandstorm marketing challenge tasks students to fill the shoes of a L’Oreal brand manager and devise an international brand strategy spanning new package design and a communications campaign, while working in conjunction with a well-known advertising agency.
This year, AAA School of Advertising students Cleo Venter, Nina Kenyon and Henrietta Rugamba were awarded first place in the National Finals. As a result of winning the South African chapter, the AAA team prepares to jet off to Paris later in June to present their marketing strategy, competing on a global level to demonstrate their expertise against top contending universities.
“We are extremely proud to have taken first place in this international competition. Our team has been hard at work refining their presentation which will go head to head with other leading marketing students on a global scale in Paris. It’s a brilliant endorsement for our AAA School of Advertising students, as well as it demonstrating to their parents that they are studying at an institution which has the edge to achieve international recognition,” says Anthea Whitehead, AAA Cape Town faculty head of marketing and advertising.
