A new drama and entertainment channel, ITV Choice, will launch across Africa on the DStv platform from Tuesday 5 May on channel 123.
Part of ITV, a global media organisation and the UK’s largest commercial broadcaster, ITV Choice – the home of new British entertainment and drama – will bring some of the UK’s best television shows to local viewers straight after the UK broadcast. This includes long-running soapies, Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
The new channel will be home to some of the most successful British programmes today – with a wide variety of award-winning drama and entertainment shows as well as contemporary comedy and most iconic soaps. Be prepared to laugh, cry and everything in-between.
Some of the highlights are Poldark, starring Aidan Turner (The Hobbit, Being Human) is a new adaptation of Winston Graham’s original 12 books – an epic family saga set in 18th century Cornwall. This 8-part series bursting with passion, beauty and drama, premiered in the UK on 8 March to great press reviews.
The multi-award winning Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway is a high energy family entertainment show featuring outrageous stunts, surprises, A-list celebrities, pranks and shocks for the studio audience and viewers at home. Oscar nominated and award-winning actress Brenda Blethyn (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice,) plays the brilliantly perceptive Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope in Vera. Martin Clunes (Doc Martin) plays the celebrated novelist and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in a three-part adaptation of Julian Barnes’ acclaimed novel Arthur & George. The drama is based on true events in the life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – who famously created the detective Sherlock Holmes – as he pursues a notorious miscarriage of justice.
