Pamro conference cancelled due to Ebola outbreak

The Pan African Media Research Organisation (Pamro) has cancelled its upcoming annual conference, taking place in Ghana, because of “potentially life threatening health and safety concerns”.

In a letter to sponsors and delegates, Pamro said the recent outbreak of the Ebola virus in countries surrounding Ghana has been “a major cause for concern for our delegates, sponsors and speakers with a number indicating they would prefer not to participate. This would impact negatively on the quality of the conference as a whole and indeed place lives at risk”.

As such, due to the high healthy and safety risk of travelling to West Africa, the 16th annual Pamro conference, that was to take place in Accra, has been pushed forward to 2015. Organisers decided that  in the interests of delegates and speakers, it would be best to wait until the potential risk is alleviated.

“We are obviously saddened by this unexpected and uncontrollable turn of events and apologise sincerely for any inconvenience you may face.  New dates and other details will be provided by us as soon as possible and  once the region is deemed safe for travel,” said Pamro president, Josiah Kimanzi.

“The conference is being re-scheduled for 2015 at the same venue, and the PAMRO organisers would like to reassure valued delegates and speakers that the conference will go ahead. The PAMRO organisers encourage delegates and speakers not to cancel existing reservations and bookings, but to re-schedule these,” Kimanzi said.
