HKLM has achieved a treble at the prestigious IABC Gold Quill Awards, taking home three Gold Quill Awards of Excellence in the 2013 competition. The strategic brand and communication design consultancy won a Gold Quill for its work with the University of Johannesburg (in the advertising campaign category) and two Gold Quills for its work with Kumba Iron Ore (one in the Safety Communications category and the other in the Human Resource and Benefit Communication category).
A proud Julia Bouie Leuner, a director at HKLM, said that only six Gold Quills had been awarded to African companies, which made HKLM’s tally of three an even more remarkable achievement. “Even more rewarding is the fact that each of these projects changed people’s lives for the better”.
For the University of Johannesburg, HKLM developed an educational campaign to educate learners (some as young as grade 9) about their future and their studies and to provide practical information on how to apply and register at the university. HKLM won its second Gold Quill for the employee communication solution it developed for the second phase of Kumba Iron Ore’s Envision share participation scheme. The third Gold Quill was awarded to HKLM for their safety communication campaign around the issue of employee fatigue at Kumba’s Kolomela Mine. Kolomela is regarded as the leader in the field of fatigue management and HKLM has received enquiries about implementing the project from other mines.
