The company says journalistic talent abounds in South Africa, and it wants to recognise hard-working reporters while raising the bar in the “pursuit of excellence”. Top prize in the competition will see a journalist walking away with R125 000 in cash plus another R125 000 for the charity of their choosing.
Each regional category winner will receive R7 500, and each national winner gets R15 000 and a BlackBerry smartphone.
Each valid entry also stands the chance to win a BlackBerry in a random draw by Vodacom’s auditors. There are 14 categories and journos can choose how many they’d like to enter. All material submitted must have been published or broadcast between 1 May 2007 and 30 April 2008. Entries close on 24 July 2008.
It’s about finding excellence as well as nurturing talent, so the competition is all inclusive: From cartoonists to columnists, broadcast news to blogging, South Africa’s best will be rewarded!
