MediaCompete, a division of the Grey Group South Africa, and MTN have “mutually agreed” to part ways. The business will be moved to Mindshare, a sister company in GroupM. MediaCompete will conclude all current projects before handing over to Mindshare.

align=justifyIn June 2007 the network provider awarded MediaCompete a three-year media strategy, implementation and buying contract.
align=justifyWhen asked why the contract came to end so soon, Paul Wilkins CEO of MediaCompete commented that the companies mutually agreed to separate. “Clauses in contracts can be amended,” he says.
align=justifyIn March 2007 MTN announced that it would be issuing a tender for a new media buying agency. This ended a 13-year partnership with OMD, which opted not to pitch for the business.
align=justifyWilkins would not comment when asked why he thinks MTN hops from one agency to the next, saying only that “the answers to all your questions are in the press release”.
