Joy Warmsley passed away last night.
Joy formed part of a group of female media legends that grew up in the 1970s and 1980’s. She worked at advertising agency VZ in the good old days when advertising and media were housed together.
For many, these were the glory years in advertising, marked by great creative and close relationships with media owners and clients. Any fan of the BBC television series, Absolutely Fabulous, can picture the times.
Close working and socialising relationships led to strong personal ties, very useful when the media began to fragment and media agencies were formed outside of the advertising groups.
This pack of women was infamous for their straight talk and approach to media buying and planning. Most media owners over the years have been at the end of a severe tongue lashing for failure to deliver after sales service or invite them to an important event.
For all her bluster Joy was a good friend to many and a committed media planner and buyer.
She retired from OMD where she had worked on the SPAR account for some time.
The funeral will be held on Friday, February 11 at 10.00. St Johns, 1 Pam Road, (off Benmore Road), Morningside.
