MEDIA STATEMENT: It is with great sadness that the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has heard of the death of our Senior News Reporter, Mr. Kgomotso Sebetso.
The SABC, as well as the public of South Africa, have lost one of its finest journalists. He was so dedicated to his work that the SABC entrusted him with a huge responsibility of covering the President of the country. This assignment was done with great excellence, in order for the public of South Africa to understand all the activities that the President was engaged in.
His death comes at a time when he was busy covering the run-up to the local government elections. It is indeed a big blow for us as the SABC, and the plans we had around him during this important time in our democracy.
Mr. Sebetso started working for the SABC in 1987 where he was appointed as Bulletin Writer. He left the SABC in November 2001 to work for government. On his return to the SABC in 2008 he was then appointed as Senior Political reporter.
The Group Executive of News and Current Affairs, Mr. Phil Molefe said “the media industry has lost a committed and professional journalist. Kgomotso’s death is a great loss to the SABC, the profession and the country as whole”.
On behalf of the Board, management and staff of the SABC, we would like to send our heartfelt condolences to the Sebetso family and friends. Their loss is our loss. He will remembered for the contribution that he has made to our democracy
