Telecommunications equipment and solutions provider ZTE Corporation has been ranked third globally in patent applications under the 2014 Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), according to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). The fifth successive year in which ZTE was ranked among the top three companies globally.
To date, ZTE has more than 17 000 handset-related patents and holds 13% of the world’s 4G patents. The State Intellectual Property Office Patent Examination Co-operation Centre reports that ZTE ranks tops in that it owns nearly 1000 smartphone patents.

Locally ZTE holds 10% of the smartphone market and is among the top three brands in the prepaid smartphone market. At the 2015 CES Consumer Electronics and Technology Expo, ZTE received four awards from the International Data Group (IDG) for Top 10 Global Smart Connected Devices, Top 10 Global Smart Phones, Top 50 Global Consumer Electronics Brands and Top 10 Brands From China.
