Who’s moved where

Ms Cosmo joins 5FM

Commercial hit radio station 5FM has officially announced its new line-up and signing on of three new on air personalities including Ms Cosmo. This announcement came into effect as of 1 April 2013.

Ms Cosmo was previously featured on the YFM YTKO feature and will now be offering a Hip Hop experience to the 5FM audience. Her show airs Sunday nights from 10pm – 1am just after Euphonik’s ‘My House’ segment.

“I’m extremely excited about the move. I’ve always wanted to be in broadcasting and I’m getting that chance along with sticking to who I am as a Hip Hop DJ. Having a show right after ‘My House’ will definitely be a challenge but I’m ready to take it on. This is a new playing field and I’m obviously nervous, so I can only do my best,” Ms Cosmo says.

“5FM has always prided itself on offering the best in personality based radio with unique content and relevant music to an audience who enjoy an irreverent, youthful style. The new additions to the 5FM line-up compliment an admired team of personalities and the unique music brand that 5FM represents” said programme manager, Tim Zunckel.

Who’s won what

Nicola Hadfield launches A Beautiful Day

Décor expert, author, business leader and multi award-winning entrepreneur Nicola Hadfield has appointed integrated communications firm marcusbrewster as her PR agency of record.  Hadfield, pioneer of South Africa’s first ever design and lifestyle expo, Decorex SA, is launching a new attraction for the discerning market, A Beautiful Day, in Johannesburg later this year.

In line with the agency’s new remit to manage an array of marketing communications and attendant service providers, marcusbrewster will oversee and integrate PR content across all platforms for the A Beautiful Day brand.
“Launching an exhibition is an ambitious task which needs support in various, diverse areas ranging from sponsorship to strategy and from proposals to publicity.  A Beautiful Day needed an agency with a breadth of reach that is as wide as it is high considering the caliber of many of our invited exhibitors and ambassadors,” Hadfield says.

Company chairman, Marcus Brewster, believes consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the impact and enhancement that good design brings to the art of living,, especially with Cape Town gearing up to host the World Design Capital in 2014.  “We are thrilled to have a visionary like Nicola on our books and look forward to A Beautiful Day reinventing what has traditionally been an ‘accepted’ format of presenting exhibitions,” he says.

brandhouse is official alcohol supplier status for Africa’s grandest gathering

Brandhouse Beverages (Pty) Ltd has once again asserted its position as South Africa’s leading premium alcohol beverage company by becoming the official -supplier to Africa’s grandest gathering, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.

The 14th Cape Town International Jazz Festival takes place from 5-6 April 2013 with hundreds of media, high profile guests and jazz lovers attending from all over the world. This year, 40 local and international artists are lined-up including Jill Scott, Brand New Heavies and one of the greatest Cuban bands, Orquestra Buena Vista Social Club.

The festival will, for the first time, be boasting dedicated Heineken and Johnnie Walker bars, as well as a VIP Heineken ‘Green Room’, where Heineken’s famous world-class hospitality will be on offer in the sought after Bassline area.

The 30 000 people attending this sold out event will also have an opportunity to access some finest reserve whiskies and a variety of other brands in brandhouse portfolio including Smirnoff, J&B, Bell’s, Bushmills, Tanqueray, Ciroc, Captain Morgan, Amstel and Windhoek.

Red Ribbon Communications wins EnterpriseWorx

Enterprise Worx, a specialised IT company providing business intelligence, data management and software engineering solutions, has recently appointed Red Ribbon as their official PR agency.

“We are very excited about working with Red Ribbon Communications. They are highly professional in all aspects of public relations. We hope it proves to be a long and successful relationship,” says Andrew Burgess, business development manager at EnterpriseWorx.

Atmosphere Communications’ winning streak set to continue in 2013

Four months into 2013 and award winning PR consultancy, Atmosphere Communications , has expanded its portfolio of blue chip clients with nine new business wins.  These include, Hansgrohe, which supplies superior quality shower, bath and basin mixers, the leading African law firm, Webber Wentzel and themed entertainment attraction, Gold Reef City, who were retained following competitive pitches. In addition, the agency has signed up project work on Nestlé South Africa, Lifebuoy from Unilever, Virgin Mobile, The Wine Show, and the award-wining international furniture design company, Herman Miller.

Now in its eleventh year, Atmosphere specialises in both corporate and consumer communications, working with leading brands such as Capitec Bank, Comair, kulula.com, McCain Food, Tile Africa, ghd, Bio Oil and Silverstar Casino to deliver integrated communications solutions that delivers measurable results.

22SEVEN appoints Radar to drive brand roll-out

When Radar heard that 22SEVEN was looking for an ad agency, they immediately wanted to be part of the challenge of building a brand that promises to re-imagine our relationship with money. Lead by the Christo Davel (the previous founder and CEO of 20twenty), 22SEVEN is a brave, bold young business that has attracted a lot of media coverage and a recent acquisitor in Old Mutual.

Davel’s vision is based on the belief that people want to have a new conversation with their money. After a short but intense courtship, Radar has been appointed as the advertising agency for the brand.  Work has already begun with a brave new visualisation and campaign that will break later in the year.

“What was apparent from the start was that Radar wanted to do the right thing for our brand – not the expedient or easy thing. They really got inside it – and then got back out again to see it from a customer’s point of view,” says Davel.

Jason Ray of Radar is delighted with this new addition to the agency’s portfolio.  He says, “It is not every day that a client briefs you with a copy of a book (Velocity) and the invitation to have a completely different conversation with consumers.  Game on!”

Who’s making moves

WAZ enlists Scoopshot to crowdsource news photos

WAZ Media Group has become one of the latest modern media companies to sign an agreement with Scoopshot, a crowdsourcing service for photos and video. The agreement gives journalists at Germany’s biggest regional newspaper, WAZ, the ability to source exclusive editorial photos and video on demand from mobile and professional photographers across Germany and worldwide.

Launched in February 2011, Scoopshot gives journalists instant access to a live stream of authenticated eyewitness photos and video taken by its global network of 250 000+ mobile photographers – over 50 000 of which are from Germany – using its mobile apps for iOS, Android and Symbian smartphones. This means that journalists can source photos from the scene of a breaking news story and do not have to rely on photos without rights or knowledge of their authenticity. Meanwhile citizen photographers can protect their intellectual property rights and make money by selling their photos to the media and other companies.

“The ubiquity of smartphones means that photos of breaking news typically surface on social media, however it can be hard for the media to verify photos or gain permission to use them quickly,”  says Eric Siereveld, Scoopshot’s European Vice President. “With Scoopshot, modern media companies like WAZ can source authenticated eyewitness photos in minutes, while engaging with readers in a new way when they’re not consuming news. We’re very excited to see what creative uses journalists at WAZ find for using our service to source photography.”

Note: TheMediaOnline has a job advertising service. The site is read by media professionals across South Africa. A job posting on the Media Online Costs R342 (incl VAT) and appears for 30 days. It appears both on the Media Online site and Memejobs.com.
