Digital publishing company Berg + Bach, in collaboration with the South African cartoonist Zapiro a.k.a. Jonathan Shapiro, has launched the Zapiro Annual App containing the complete collection of the cartoonist’s annual books including out of print editions. The Zapiro Annual App follows the successful Zapiro-Toons released in late 2012.
The Zapiro Annual App will be released in February 2013 for both Apple and Android devices including tablets and smartphones. The app launches off with the latest Zapiro Annual: But Will It Stand Up In Court?. Since 1996 Zapiro has, every year, released a book of his best work published in the Mail & Guardian, the South African Sunday Times, The Times, the Sowetan and Independent Newspapers. Each book is a collection of clever and cutting cartoons that capture South Africa’s progress – or lack thereof. So far he has produced 17 cartoon books. This app will include Zapiro’s complete collection of annuals, giving priority to those books no longer available in print.
“Moving to a digital version not only allows us to easily distribute all books to a wider geographical audience, it lets us re-publish the often requested out-of-print books. Berg + Bach have been able to keep my original look and feel of the book while discretely adding useful search features”, said Zapiro when he saw the app.
The Zapiro-Toons is still free for download. The Zapiro Annual is free to download, enabling users to receive the latest Zapiro news. Within Zapiro Annual App all collections are available and priced at:
