Volksblad is changing its format from broadsheet to tabloid next month for its Saturday edition.
“We aim to provide our readers with a user friendly weekend package in line with the slower pace of a Saturday. Our content will still focus strongly on regional news with additional travelling, gardening pages, in-depth interviews, investigative articles, six pages of sports news, two fun pages with crosswords and games. Space will be created for readers’ contributions and social photos,” said Johanna van Eeden, editor of Volksblad.
The popular property supplement, Woongids, will still be part of the Saturday paper, packaged as an easy pull-out to provide a longer shelf life and guide readers on Sundays to pick the best week end show house opportunities.
The newspaper has been published in this size twice previously and was positively received by advertisers and readers. It had returned to broadsheet format due to production constraints, which have now been eliminated.
“Volksblad has a personal relationship with its advertisers who are seen as inherently part of the newspaper’s success and character,” says Christo Brits, Portfolio Manager of Afrikaans Titles at Ads24. “The Ads24 team are looking forward to exploring this new opportunity with media planners and strategists and are open to any questions or suggestions to unlock opportunities presented by the new format.”
