The phenomenally popular Toyota Jacaranda Pops took Delta Park in Blairgowrie by storm on Saturday with hits from the ’80s, ’90s and now performed by an A-list cast of artists and the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
When we say ‘by storm’, we mean it: Even amidst pouring rain – which transformed to starry skies halfway through the show – Arno Carstens, Charlize Berg, Chiano Sky, Danny K, Kurt Darren, Loyiso Bala, Tamara Dey and Kahn Morbee from the Parlotones brought the 1 200-strong crowd a pop-infused symphony of sound that was nothing short of spectacular.
“Come wind, high water, or both… Toyota Jacaranda Pops proved its worth as one of the highlights of the 2012 entertainment calendar”, says Kevin Fine, General Manager at Jacaranda FM, “There was something for literally every musical taste – superbly put together by some of the best talent that South Africa has on offer, and attended by probably the most spirited and dedicated crowd we’ve seen to date. It was ‘LEKKER to be here’ – even on a super wet Jo’burg night.”
Taking shelter under their umbrellas, the crowd stuck it out through thunder and rain and were duly rewarded – enthralled by the musical brilliance of every single act, including some world-class drumming, choir-singing and flash mob Irish dancing, culminating in a grand finale which left them cheering for more.
A very special and heart-warming moment was shared by all when sparklers were lit throughout the audience during Loyiso & Kurt’s rendition of ‘Don’t let the sun go down on me’. This was in celebration of Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels and the hundreds of lives it changes for the better every year.
