Chicken Licken have become revered for the hilarious commercials such as Big John and the ever popular Money on Your Back ads that aims to illustrate the extreme lengths people will go to satisfy their craving for crispy fried chicken even if it means putting themselves in potentially precarious positions.
Chicken Licken’s latest commercial, Rock My Soul, produced by long time associated ad agency Net#BBDO has once again teamed up together to bring to life the story of Ricky Alexander Douglas, a man from Lone Hill Johannesburg, who has let his soul go hungry.
The ad plays on an Eat, Pray, Love theme where Rick has left his comfortable suburban life to undertake an epic adventure to reconnect with his lost spiritual self. Rick is on a mission to rekindle that element of himself that the modern world has taken away from him which becomes apparent when he reveals his motivation in the interview scene “I must replenish myself and replenish what the man world has taken from me” whilst he is sitting down on a harsh, rocky, dusty landscape just outside a rural Nepalese village.
“It was an incredible journey to make this crazy ad,” says Net#BBDO ECD, Brent Singer because the majority of the television commercial was shot in Southern Asia’s Nepal to give it that realistic authenticity of leaving the world behind to follow ones deep desire. Rick is seen chasing chickens, licking statues and wondering naked in the Himalayas which is a further testament to never let your soul go hungry because a hungry soul is a restless soul.
