Business Positioning Systems welcomes new head of sales

Leading location based search company Business Positioning Systems (BPS) has announced the addition of Buster Pitt to its team as head of sales.

Pitt joins after over two and half successful years at Media Union where he worked on platforms such as Justplay and JAG Marketing. These ROI focused digital platforms have left Buster with the ideal skills to join BPS, a business that focuses on driving acquisition for its range of blue chip clients.

BPS founding director Neil Clarence says, “Buster’s skill set, ambition and established network will be a welcome addition to our team as we continue to lead the local SEO space across the African continent.”

Silicon Cape announce’s new Exco

Silicon Cape, South Africa’s largest tech entrepreneurial network, has held their bi-annual elections. As a volunteer run organisation, community participation and involvement is key for it’s ongoing success.

Daniel Guasco, entrepreneur and angel investor, is taking over from Alexandra Fraser as chairperson of the initiative. Guasco says, “I am honoured and privileged to be taking over from Alexandra who has lead the organisation with some incredible and tangible results most notably the recent funding from FNB. Alexandra has set the bar for the new incumbents assuming positions. To the past committee members who dedicated much time and effort to selfishly drive South Africa’s largest tech entrepreneurial network, Thank you.”

There were a number of nominations from the community and outgoing Exco for new committee members who stood for election. All members that attended the nomination, which was open to the whole community, had five allocated votes, which then counted in accordance to the governing structure of the Silicon Cape Constitution.

The results of the vote are represented in the final executive committee below.

Lianne du Toit, Vice Chairperson & Event Relations; Alexandra Fraser, Vice Chairperson & Stakeholder Relations; Roger Norton, Finance & Governance; Baratang Miya, Transformation; Zimkhita Buwa, Women; Sumarie Roodt & Elizabeth Gould, Students & Careers; Roy Mathieu Borole & Guillaume de Smedt, Start-up Relations; Deidre Luzmore & Lauren Wallet, Marketing & Communications; Vasili Sofiadellis, Investor Relations; Nevo Haddas, Fundraising; Matt Cohen, Developer Relations; James Milne, Government Relations

Multiply appoints Financial Wellness Expert

Multiply, Momentum’s Wellness and Rewards programme, has appointed economist Johann van Tonder supporting its commitment to programme members of providing insights and tools to help them understand, track and improve their financial wellness.

In this role, Van Tonder will research and analyse market data to identify what financial wellness means for different types of consumers in different life stages, using micro- and macro-economic factors to provide guidance on how consumers can boost their financial wellness.

He joins Multiply from the University of South Africa’s Personal Finance Research and Bureau of Market Research, and during his illustrious career has worked as a deputy director and senior economist at National Treasury, as well as being a specialist economics journalist at Rapport.

Who’s won what

Owen Kessel Leo Burnett appointed lead agency for Dimension Data

OwenKessel Leo Burnett (OKLB) has announced that it has been appointed the lead, through-the-line agency for Dimension Data, following a six-way pitch in December last year.

This is a significant win for the agency, as Dimension Data is one of South Africa’s original IT success stories, boasting operations in over 58 countries, with over 23 000 employees and over 6 000 clients – including 59% of the Fortune Global 500.

OKLB is particularly excited about working with Dimension Data because it presents the agency with the opportunity to ‘humanise’ the brand. “Dimension Data are excited about working with OKLB to take our brand into a new space that we believe will resonate with our target audience. The team at OKLB really managed to understand our brand challenges and have come up with a sound plan to drive innovative and creative ideas in a space that is hungry for fresh design” says Candice Segar, head of marketing for Dimension Data Middle East & Africa

“Dimension Data has always been boxed as a business-to-business brand, but at OKLB we don’t believe in B2B or B2C. We are a ‘humankind’ agency, and as such we believe in H2H, or Human to Human communication,” says OKLB CEO Felix Kessel.

Tribeca PR signs Saab Grintek Defence

Saab Grintek Defence has appointed Tribeca Public Relations (Tribeca) to be its strategic communications partner for sub-Saharan Africa. Saab Grintek Defence provides a broad range of world-leading products, services and solutions within military defence and civil security to the pan-African market.

“We are exceptionally proud to be working with Saab Grintek Defence, a company that has won the Best South African Export Company award from the Department of Trade and Industry for the past two years,” says Cian Mac Eochaidh, co-owner of Tribeca Public Relations.

Tribeca will also be responsible for managing communication needs for the larger Saab Group in additional strategic African markets.“Our further appointment as regional lead agency for Saab strengthens our reputation as an agency that serves the interests of our clients in Africa, through our partner network, seamlessly and effectively,” he adds.

The Saab Grintek Defence team at Tribeca will be led by senior consultant Nicola Tarr.

Jam Media appointed as event managers for GNC South Africa

The Clicks Group’s wellness brand, GNC South Africa, has appointed 360 degree communications agency, Jam Media, as the event managers for the company’s EFC Worldwide activations.

They have since managed the GNC activation at EFC 37, which took place at Carnival City in February this year. EFC 38 will be happening on Saturday, 4 April at Durban ICC, with GNC once again showcasing a prominent presence as one of the event sponsors.

“It has been an absolute pleasure working side by side with the Clicks group. Both EFC Worldwide and GNC are brands that we feel great synergy with and so managing an activation at one for the other is a thrilling experience”, says director of Jam Media, Jess Mouneimne

Agilitude appointed as resellers of Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Customer experience management specialist, Agilitude, has been appointed as a reseller for Salesforce Marketing Cloud in South Africa. Agilitude already offers both Salesforce Service and Salesforce Sales, making the company one of very few to offer the full suite in South Africa.

Quinton Pienaar, Agilitude, CEO and customer experience evangelist says the addition of Marketing Cloud to the company’s Salesforce solution offering makes significant sense: “We focus on customer engagement and creating meaningful customer journeys. The addition of Marketing Cloud completes the customer journey lifecycle, especially as traditional marketing is on the decline as digital marketing becomes more relevant.”

Salesforce Marketing cloud provides a digital marketing platform for Email, SMS, social media, and personalised web experiences. “In addition, you can map your customer journeys and stay in touch with each and every prospect on a one-to-one basis rather than broadcasting messages to them.”

It is also very rewarding, both professionally and personally, to be a part of elevating our industry to new heights. And we also have quite a lot of fun! I welcome all to apply now!”

It is important to our industry that the AMASA Joburg committee is a well-balanced and fairly representative committee, of media owners and agency representatives, as well as marketers. ITAMSA partners with triVector for improved IT Asset Management delivery in South Africa

triVector and ITAMSA (Information Technology Asset Management South Africa) have announced their newly formed partnership, enabling South African companies to manage their Information Technology (IT) assets more efficiently and cost-effectively, maximising return on investment.

Encouraged by the dire need in organisations in South Africa for appropriate and integrated lifecycle management of IT assets, ITAMSA was established in 2012. As an affiliate of the International Association of Information Technology Asset Managers (IAITAM), ITAMSA specialises in all aspects of the lifecycle of processes for IT assets in organisations of every size and industry. Tsogo Sun bets on SA’s oldest sprint race

One of South Africa’s top horseracing events and the only sprint event with four Grade 1 races in one day has been given a major boost by virtue of Tsogo Sun adding its name and prestige to the event – the Tsogo Sun Sprint – scheduled to be held on 23 May 2015 at Scottsville Race Course in Pietermaritzburg.

First run in 1962, South Africa’s oldest, biggest and richest sprint event, previously known as the Golden Horse Sprint, is one of the six top race days held annually in South Africa and is this year offering over R3 million in prize money.

“Tsogo Sun has been a partner to the Golden Horse Sprint for 14 years and is now taking its support to a new level by changing the name to the Tsogo Sun Sprint,” says Jacques Booysen, MD of Tsogo Sun, who explains that Tsogo Sun’s Golden Horse Casino holds the enviable position of being the only casino in Africa to be located on a racecourse.

“We’re excited about this new strategic direction that is seeing the group ‘adopt’ key sporting events to the extent of taking on the naming rights to the event. We believe this is a win-win partnership with the City of Pietermaritzburg that will see the Tsogo Sun Sprint being elevated by the opportunity to leverage the Tsogo Sun brand, as well as for the group, which is extending its reach into the thrilling and fast-paced world of horseracing. In fact, this was an opportunity not to be missed as we recognised that changing the name would raise the profile of the casino, the group and the city.”
