EWN has joined the likes of the New York Times and Buzzfeed as a South African pioneer in the use of Facebook’s Instant Articles.
Facebook launched Instant Articles early in May, allowing users to view articles instantly via their Facebook apps, and improving the user experience as Instant articles load up to 10 times faster than other articles on the mobile web.
“Eyewitness News is always looking for new and better ways to tell stories, so this was a natural addition to our arsenal of content distribution platforms,” said EWN online editor, Sheldon Morais.
There is also potential for more interesting, interactive storytelling using Instant Articles.
In addition to the benefits to the user, Instant Articles give publishers the opportunity to monetise posts via Facebook’s systems, at no additional effort or cost to the publisher.
EWN will continue to post on their own mobile platform, but will now also use Facebook’s Instant Articles for certain content.
