Radio Pulpit 657AM, a member of the Pulpit Media Group (PMG) has been on air since 1981 and celebrated its 35th birthday on 4 August! The station broadcasts from greater Gauteng, reaching an average of 150 000 listeners as far as Mpumalanga, parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the Northern Cape. With tremendously loyal listeners, Radio Pulpit 657AM can be seen as the preferred Christian media partner of the day. The station broadcasts in English, African languages and Afrikaans and was chosen as the 2015 MTN Community Station of the Year. This not only proves that Radio Pulpit 657AM has kept up with the times, but also that it carries excellent content that is real and relevant to listeners and advertisers alike. In 2012 a license was granted to Radio Pulpit’s sister station, Radio Cape Pulpit 729AM, broadcasting in the greater part of the Western Cape. These stations proclaim the Gospel message to South Africa (and beyond) through the production and broadcasting of radio programmes, supported by electronic, social and digital media, publications and media initiatives.
Making history
Radio Pulpit is on the cutting edge of technology and is seen as a leader in its field. The station made history in July 2014 by being the first radio station in Southern Africa to perform digital audio test transmissions. The results of these transmissions have exceeded expectations – both in terms of service quality and coverage. Since 1 February 2015 transmissions of the BBC have been co-transmitted on the 1440kHz frequency – another first for Southern Africa.
Radio Pulpit also took the lead in developing a current and real moral media alternative for the youth via the I AM Youth Movement and I AM Youth Web Radio (www.iamymovement.co.za)
Youth presenters bring the Gospel in a language that young people understand. Through the I AM youth web radio, social media, a daily devotional youth publication, interactive school visits and a free counselling service, the I AM Youth Movement moves boundaries and restores the youth’s identity in Christ.
Bringing hope
Radio Pulpit 657AM partners with United Christian Broadcasters Africa (UCB Africa) in radio missionary activities into Africa to facilitate and establish Christian radio ministries and provide training and development opportunities for emerging Christian broadcasters. Together they distribute more than 3 million copies of the daily devotional booklet, Word for Today, in Africa – free of charge. The daily devotional booklets, in print and electronic formats, provide the station and its advertisers with the opportunity to be in contact with its loyal listeners on a daily basis – in South Africa and beyond.
Another way that the station brings hope is through a 24 hour counselling service. Biblical counsellors are ready and waiting to help listeners 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
With an average monthly reach of more than 1 milliion fans on Facebook, added to this, the station brings hope across boundaries.
Radio Pulpit stands in partnership with various communities and the business sector. By doing this the station attends to the traumatic realities of communities and becomes a daily companion to those who might be forgotten.
