Skills development and the upskilling of professionals in the media industry have been major concerns in the past couple of years.
Now more than ever before, media companies are looking for multi-skilled employees in order to battle the tough financial environment and increased competition. Multichannel marketing solutions group Mediamark is addressing these concerns, through a new skills development and knowledge sharing initiative called In the KNOW NOW.
Mediamark managing director Werner Lindemann explains the need for such an initiative, “The media industry is going through an era of rapid change as digital technologies reshape the landscape and change consumer behavior. Today’s leading brands are thinking about their marketing and advertising in a more integrated and holistic manner, and data and technology are more important than ever.”
It’s not just young media practitioners who will benefit from this initiative, seasoned marketers and media planning professionals are also being targeted as well. The former will be unskilled, while the latter will be kept at the forefront of the latest industry trends. This is in response to the daunting complex landscape that young media planners nowadays have to face, while veteran strategists may struggle to stay abreast with new technological advancements and trends. In the KNOW NOW will consist of physical programmes and web-based learning. The learning will kick off with a course on radio and its relationship to other media types before other areas of media and media planning are explored.
Mediamark is in the perfect position to offer this initiative as Lindemann explains, “Using our rich history of leading the education space and also with a desire to share our learnings, Mediamark wants to help ramp up understanding of the relevance of traditional media and how digital dovetails to amplify reach and impact. Our aim is to help them navigate this shifting terrain so that they can help their clients get the best possible ROI from their multi-channel, media investments.”
Lindemann concludes, “This project forms part of Mediamark’s ongoing commitment to working with industry partners to educate the market. Our objective is to challenge, energise and inspire.”
