The Media Online’s weekly round up.  Gilder appointed sales and development manager for Olympic International Footwear. Digital Briefcase strikes marketing trifecta with website. The Reputation Go-to Guy releases a Crisis Management Toolkit. SABC celebrates Heritage Month

A BIG move: Spontaneity joins the Nfinity Group

Launched earlier this year, the Nfinity Group, headed by entrepreneur Ken Varejes has added eventing company Spontaneity into its fold.

At the helm of Spontaneity is Michelle Kirby with decades of eventing, business and marketing experience behind her. Kirby headed up the marketing for e.tv for some eight years while previously running the consumer marketing division in the late 90s, for SABC’s TV1. Subsequently, she’s successfully run her own eventing business working with many blue chip brands.

“It was a very easy decision to join forces with Nfinity to ensure continued growth for my business,” she says. “Ken brings exceptional expertise and years of experience in successful business leadership.  With the support, collaboration and synergy from the other businesses in our Group, namely The Salt, URUP, Whisky Live plus some soon to be launched businesses, it really made perfect sense.”

Varejes adds that Whisky Live, as an existing successful eventing business, will undoubtedly benefit from Michelle and Spontaneity as will the other businesses in the portfolio.

“The eventing world is an ever changing and evolving one and client needs are rapidly shifting from hosting traditional social events to more interactive and engaging affairs that leave the end user with real experiences that are extremely relevant to them,” she says. “It has to be about immersion, collaboration with different parties and platforms and focused on both quality and quirk factors.”

She goes on to say that, “clients constantly require a Return on Investment and no longer see events as just brand building or brand engaging opportunities, and that’s very encouraging!

Who’s moved where

Gilder appointed sales and development manager for Olympic International Footwear

Former sales manager of Barker and Crockett & Jones (Barker Footwear), Gary Gilder, has been appointed as the new sales and development manager for Olympic International Footwear (Jordan & Co).

Born in Harare and raised in Durban, Gilder holds a Diploma in Business Management from the Natal Technikon. “I have seven years’ experience in my industry. What I’ve come to enjoy the most is being able to assist and develop ranges for the market, as well develop sales and marketing strategies. I’m always looking for new challenges.” Gilder adds that the economy has had major impact on the retail industry.  “The current economic climate forces you to offer the best value for money and be on top of your game all the time. I hope to become a knowledgeable asset to the company.”

Gilder sayshis greatest achievement as playing cricket for South Africa. As a left arm fast bowler and right hand batsman, he took 8 for 22 during his career.

Who’s making moves

Digital Briefcase strikes marketing trifecta with website

Digital Briefcase, a division of the national media sales powerhouse SPARK Media, recently assisted in the design and implementation of the www.crownjewels.co.za website and in the process were able to not only showcase their digital and creative work to an international audience, but also support local environmental education through the Kirstenbosch Environmental Educational Appeal.

“As part of our CSI commitment we sponsored the design and implantation of this website alongside PHD Network, as we felt that the initiative spoke strongly to us in terms of education and ‘doing good’ for the environment,” says Kristin Louw, GM at Digital Briefcase.

This private sector initiative has been set up to enable substantial numbers of school-goers and university students from disadvantaged communities to receive environmental education in the world’s most inspiring outdoor classrooms.

The call to action of this website is a drive for bids to purchase a full collection of exclusive jewellery in order to fund the needs of SANBI (South African National Biodiversity Institute) to support environmental education. The short-term funding target for the Kirstenbosch Environmental Education Appeal is $2.6 million to enable all the gardens to get up and running with buses and other essential equipment and funds to cover entrance fees and staff salaries for the first two years.

The website has been designed to be informative and user friendly while showcasing the one of a kind, world-class jewellery collection. The collection has been designed exclusively for this cause by seven leading award winning jewellery designers and craftsmen, inspired by the fauna and flora from The Cape Floral Kingdom, the smallest, but richest in biodiversity of the world’s six floral kingdoms.

The Reputation Go-to Guy releases a Crisis Management Toolkit

Deon Binneman aka the Reputation Go-to Guy has released a Crisis Management Toolkit designed to assist and equip management teams to anticipate, prepare for, and manage potential crises.

A business crisis is a situation or incident that has occurred within a company, business or organisation that may cause potential harm and damage reputation. Companies must react to the situation effectively in order to maintain their brand image and the trust of their consumers.

There are two issues critical to manage a crisis and that is to understand that there are the realities of the situation to deal with as well as the perceptions that are created during a crises.

The key to handling crises is to always be ready ahead of time for the storm that is always on the horizon. This must-have crisis toolkit will equip crisis incident controllers and communicators with the skills to set the tone for managing the situation.

Many organisations cannot afford the luxury of having a full-time Crisis Manager on board. This however does not absolve the institution should a crisis occur.
