News about the media world often breaks via social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Playboy South Africa has just experienced the phenomenon, and so too did classy décor magazine, Elle Decoration.
It was Facebook this time. Someone’s aunty at the dentist via the next-door neighbour through the postman heard that the Avusa publication was about to shut its doors. And it was stated as fact.
Not so, says Avusa Magazine’s Silke Friedrich. Without giving too much away, Friedrich said “plans were in motion to make it work optimally”.
“It may well have a rosy future,” she hinted, adding that the leaks had “not come at the best time”.
“It’s getting attention,” she said. And referred TheMediaOnline to Thando Pato, deputy business manager at Avusa Magazines. “She’s closest to Elle Décor.”
Pato was even less forthcoming. “At this stage I cannot comment on your questions as we are finalising a strategy. Once this is complete we will release a statement. Silke is correct in saying that Avusa is not closing the title.”
Well, there it is. It’s not closing. It seems the recent extensive restructuring at Avusa might has led to some uneasy feelings amongst staff and so the rumours started. And that’s about as much as we know at this point!
