Jacaranda 94.2 breakfast host at a loss for words
Jacaranda 94.2’s Complimentary Breakfast team has undertoaken a journey to Hoedspruit in Limpopo to deliver much needed aid to a community in desperate need. This came in the wake of a project in which the station, working with the Red Cross, appealed to listeners and donors to donate vital goods – such as on-perishable foods, blankets, clothes, sleeping bags and bottled water – to help those overcome by the floods in the Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
The response from listeners was “absolutely overwhelming”. At the official handover Maruleng Municipal Offices, breakfast show host Rian van Heereden and the team told Mayor Mpudu Junior Magogo they had collected “an estimated tens of tons” of support including over an astounding 80 000 litres of water.
“I have never seen something like this. These are people who have never met you and may never meet you… these are complete strangers who give to people who they don’t know just because they want to help and because they care… it’s extraordinary. What an amazing experience to be part of this!” Van Heerden said.
As a spokesperson from the Red Cross said: “It’s in times like these where people, even the worst of enemies, really come together… where our commitment is not to black or white, to ANC, PAC or DA… not to rich or poor, but to humanity as a whole.”
Jacaranda 94.2 would like to extend a special thank you to listeners for their passionate and heartfelt support of this project, SA Express Airways for flying the team to Hoedspruit, Silver Wings Spur for the meals they supplied, the Red Cross for all their on-the-ground help and the officials and people of Maruleng whose strong and welcoming spirit will always remain in the hearts of our team!
