Netwerk24’s marketing video, Klein Riaan, scooped two silver awards in the categories for Television/Cinema (with a production budget exceeding R600 000) and Original Afrikaans. The Pendoring Advertising Awards, now in its 20th year, rewards excellence in Afrikaans advertising. The winners were announced last night at Vodacom World in Midrand, Gauteng.
The script for the Netwerk24 video was written by the advertising agency NATIVE VML. Riaan Cruywagen, who has been described as “Mr Afrikaans News” was the face of the marketing campaign for Netwerk24, the online home to Media24’s dailies as well as Sunday newspaper Rapport. Klein Riaan, a specially designed character, was designed for this purpose.
The digital-first reporting team is led by editor-in-chief Adriaan Basson. “Since its launch one year ago, Netwerk24 is already the biggest paid-for news platform in South Africa. We will now further develop and strengthen the brand through journalism that is fast, impactful, original and relevant. In an exploding digital world, there is an even greater need for excellent content and great curation. That’s what we will do,” says Basson.
