Michael Currin

Michael Currin began his career as a government communication officer in 1991, and has since held a number of positions in the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS). Since 2002, he has been responsible for GCIS’ Local Liaison and Information Management, and then Provincial Co-ordination directorates. These units were tasked with establishing co-ordination and support systems to GCIS provincial and district offices, and developing and implementing development communication and information campaigns within communities. Currin has rich experience in running public-sector communication campaigns and programmes, and has played a leading role in intergovernmental processes aimed at extending the government communication system to local government.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts and an Honours Degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (formerly the University of Natal), and a Masters Degree in Education from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, which was awarded in 1999.

In June 2008, Currin was appointed Chief Director: Provincial and Local Liaison.

He was appointed as Deputy Director-General: Intergovernmental Coordination & Stakeholder Manager from 1 March 2022.
