This week’s BIG move: Jecy will be attending business school thanks to SPARK Media
Jecy Kalume, long-time resident and member of the Mother of Peace Community, received a substantial sponsorship boost from SPARK Media to enable him to attend business school and further his studies.
“In lieu of the traditional client Christmas gifts, we will be contributing to Jecy’s future education to make his dream a reality,” says joint CEO of SPARK Media, Gill Randall.
“We feel that he has earned this sponsorship by evidence of his hard work and dedication at school, backed by his ever infectious enthusiasm for everything that he does. His intention has always been to study further and we believe that with our support he will become a considerable asset to his community.
“This sponsorship forms part of our overall corporate social investment programme strategy to enable and educate possible future business leaders,” concludes Randall. “We look forward to seeing Jecy grow from strength to strength in any of the business fields that he chooses and we will be keeping a close eye on his progress.”
Mother of Peace Northriding is the smallest of the three foster homes and is run by a group of volunteers who dedicate their lives to looking after 24 amazing children. The home’s aim is to provide children with an opportunity to live within a structured family environment, be cared for, nurtured and loved. Children are fostered by full-time, dedicated and committed members of the community.

Who’s won what
Boomtown lands craft brewery
New craft brewery, Jeffreys Bay Craft Brewery (JBay CB), has appointed Boomtown to develop its brand as it looks to enter the market in the first quarter of 2017.
Jeffreys Bay is steeped in surfing history and it’s this and the indigenous aloe vegetation of the area that has inspired the branding for the brewery. “The area was our inspiration,” remarks JBay CB founder Bruce Tavenor. And it’s with this knowledge that Boomtown used to inspire its designs.”
“Bruce and his team went beach combing and brought back items such as a dying aloe leaf and drift wood for us to use as inspiration,” adds Simon Browne, Boomtown senior account manager. “Each brew is named after a surf spot or a local icon to JBay, and is brewed for surfers, by surfers – this all had to come across in our design.”
Craft beer has exploded in popularity, and an increasing number of craft breweries are being established. “It’s vital that the branding for JBay CB expresses the differentiation from the crowd, and entices craft beer enthusiasts to sample and buy,” adds Browne.

Who’s making moves
Media Revolution enables CSI project as #OperationRehab gains momentum
An ambitious CSI project co-ordinated by local marketing and media agency, Media Revolution, is taking off, with the first beneficiary on his way to receive free medical treatment in India.
The CSI project, #OperationRehab, aims to revolutionise the treatment and rehabilitation of disabled patients across South Africa. The initiative was catalysed by an offer of support from Indian philanthropist and founder of the Disable Welfare Trust of India, Shree Kanubhai Tailor, and is co-ordinated in South Africa by Media Revolution as its key CSI project.
With the backing of Indian corporate sponsors and specialists, #OperationRehab is in talks with national and provincial government health departments on replicating the Disable Welfare Trust of India’s highly successful model in South Africa. The project will fly South Africans to India for free specialist treatment and also aims to establish comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation centres for disabled people in South Africa.
A Lenasia man, 55-year-old Sharad Narsai, has become the first South African to benefit from the ambitious plan. Narsai, who lost his leg five years ago due to diabetes complications, left for Surat in India last week. He will travel to the Disable Welfare Trust’s specialised treatment and rehabilitation facility to be fitted with a new prosthetic leg, which is necessary to ensure ongoing mobility. During his 25-day stay in India, Narsai will also be given rehabilitation and treatment to ensure he is able to use the new prosthesis properly.
As the first #OperationRehab beneficiary, he will pave the way for potentially hundreds of under-privileged disabled adults and children who may be flown to India for treatment in future.
